Social Entrepreneurs

Make Social Change

A Crucial Societal Building Block

Social entrepreneurship is crucial in our society as it addresses pressing social issues by harnessing entrepreneurial principles. Unlike traditional business entrepreneurs who focus on profit, social entrepreneurs aim to create ventures that bring about positive societal change. They identify and tackle social problems head-on, emphasizing the impact they have on communities and individuals. This approach, often practiced with a global perspective, is known as international social entrepreneurship. By combining innovation and a deep commitment to social betterment, social entrepreneurship plays a vital role in shaping a more equitable and sustainable world.

Social entrepreneurship is the work of a social entrepreneur. A social entrepreneur is someone who recognizes a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organize, create, and manage a venture to make social change. Whereas a business entrepreneur typically measures performance in profit and return, a social entrepreneur assesses success in terms of the impact s/he has on society. Social entrepreneurship practiced with a world view or international context is called international social entrepreneurship. – UC Davis Internship & Career Center
